SLOW COOKER HOMEMADE APPLESAUCE

November 8, 2012

Isn’t it weird when you make a food homemade that you’ve always used store-bought and it’s a disturbingly different color? One serious offender is lemon “flavored” stuff. Come on guys, lemon juice is basically clear, not neon-traffic-lines-yellow.

Anyway, this applesauce is delicious, natural, and just feels good to eat. The ingredients are simple and pure. Because lest we forget, apples taste good all on their own.

Lastly, 10 bonus points because this will make your whole house smell like Autumn-amazeness all day.

Serves 5-6

8 apples, peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon cinnamon

3 tablespoons brown sugar

Cook on low for 5-6 hours. Stir and serve.

I just love the idea of using the crockpot. I have a large one so can double the recipe. Just started my third double batch.

I love the look of your apple sauce. What size slow cooker did you use?

  • Kacy

What kind of apples do you use?

      Honeycrisp

  • Lovely. Reminds me of Cinnamon Apple Chutney, except that has flakes of chili to give it an extra kick. Great photo by the way. Has a nice rustic look with that string around the bottle.

Hi! I love this recipe but I don’t have a crock pot. This recipe has been the final push though for me to get one but I’m not sure how big it has to be. Any suggestions on what size the slow cooker could fit 8 apples?

  • Yum! Just discovered your blog, everything looks amazing. Have you tried freezing this? Just wondering if that would hurt the flavor at all. Can’t wait to experiment with different types of apples!

Thank you! I have never frozen this, but I would suspect it would work. Let me know if you try it and how it goes.
