STRAWBERRY & NUTELLA HOMEMADE POP TARTS

January 27, 2013

Well, I wanted to get smidge cute-sy on Valentine’s day this year. While still giving my grizzly husband something he’d actually like. The man likes pop-tarts. I like strawberries & nutella. Together. So. These got made. This is a time where you would question if the gift I got for Dave is really more for him or for me. Andddd your question is valid. But we both liked these and were happy. NUTELLA IS A TOP FLAVOR.

STRAWBERRY & NUTELLA HOMEMADE POP TARTS
Makes 4 pop-tarts

1 box pre-made pie crust
1/2 cup nutella
1/4 cup strawberry jam
1 egg
Strawberry for garnish
Granulated sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Slice round pie crust to create four large rectangles (eight rectangles total). In four of the rectangles, cut out a small heart, about the size of a strawberry, with a butter knife.

On the remaining rectangles, layer an even amount of nutella and strawberry jam, leaving a small perimeter around the edge for sealing.

Top with cut out rectangle and pinch ends together. Press sides with a fork to seal. Carve up a slice of a strawberry in the shape of a heart and place it in the opening of the pastry.
