Korean Braised Tofu
Serves 5-6
2 blocks tofu, sliced into cubes or thin rectangles (both pictured)
3/4 cup water
1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 cup scallions, finely sliced
1/2 teaspoon lime juice
3 tablespoons sesame seeds
1/2 cup corn starch
Combine water, red pepper flakes, brown sugar, vegetable oil, sesame oil, scallions, lime juice, and sesame seeds into a bowl.
Dust all sides of tofu in corn starch. Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Transfer tofu into pan and sear on each side for 3-4 minutes.
Remove tofu from skillet and serve over rice or vegetables, drizzled with sauce. Sauce may be enjoyed hot or cold.
