YEAR ONE: GOALS

February 14, 2013

Yesterday I did a small celebration of this blog’s birthday by sharing how this blog came to be something I make some money doing. Today I thought it’d be fun to share some goals! Here’s some of my hopes for year two. If you’ve been a long time or brand new reader, and you’ve never commented, feel free to stop and say hey. Reading your comments are a fun part of my day! And I usually do a pretty good job at responding.

ONE: Write more home decor posts. I love decorating as much as or more than cooking, so I’d like for it to get a little more air-time.

TWO: Continually growing comments and reader interaction! As I said, I love hearing from you guys. Whether it be on Twitter or e-mail or best of all, right here in the blog’s comments section! I’m putting this stuff out there, so I’m welcoming your responses.

YEAR SIX

THREE: Reach 1 million monthly pageviews. Numbers aren’t everything. But they’re still something. I’m currently in the upper 800k range, so this is would be exciting!

FOUR: Improve site’s design. What I’m currently working with is adequate, I suppose. But I’ve been making moves so that it will be much better and prettier around here for y’all.

FIVE: Possibly incorporating some videos. Would you guys like that? With tutorials for recipes and stuff?

Let me know any ideas you have for the coming year in the coming year.

  • I just fell upon your blog at work and I LOVE IT!! I love your personality, your quirkyness, your recipes, your knowlege, your wisdom, and most of all that you’re super relatable!

I have a blog too that I started on 1/1/14 and reading through your one year goals and the other posts during the one year week celebration has been so inspiring!!

    Thank you! =)

That’s great to hear, Lessy. Thank you!

    DECOR POSTS!!! YES!

Also, I’m a new cook and have been utilizing my slow cooker as much as possible. If you could post lots and lots of slow-cooker recipes, I’d be so grateful. My kitchen appreciates being used, honestly. :)

I’m glad you like the decor posts! I like writing them. Thanks for the slow cooker input too!

  • Nik

I would love to see some instruction on how you get your food pictures to turn out so great! Any photography instruction is always appreciated by me! Also, do you use Photoshop Elements? I would love to know how you edit the pictures, too.
I would love instruction for how to set up a website.

I love to see recipes with whole grains! I’m definitely going to try your muffins and that quinoa recipe you recently posted!

What does David think about the blog? Does he get sick of it taking your time, or does he like that it’s an income source? Or both?

    • Rachel Schultz

That’s a great idea, Nik. Thanks for letting me know! Dave is really supportive and proud of the blog. He helps me work on it often. I try hard to mostly only work on it when he is it work, so it’s kind of like we both go to work during the day and then have uninterrupted time together at home at night and on the weekends.

Hi Rachel, I read a LOT of blogs whenever I get the chance and I found yours about two months ago and find myself drawn back religiously. You are so cute and the relationship you and your husband share is truly adorable and heart melting and just so sugary sweet. MORE David Schultz AND you and I’d love more decorating too. I love your quirky way(and that is an ultimate compliment) You are so down to earth and darling. I love the simplicity of your lives which you choose to share with us. I am honored to hear about your new traditions, your daily activities, Davids birthday surprises, etc…. I just cannot wait to see WHAT you do with that downsized apartment. Do I sound stalker-ish??? lol – sorry, but I really love your blog, above so many others, and I’m hoping you don’t change it to much and lose yourself in the process. You two are cute as a bug!!! Many blessings.

      Rose,

Thanks so much! That is really sweet. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

I found your blog through a friend’s FB post of one of your recipes and really enjoy it! I love that you speak through your own voice and have great ideas on food and decorating. I feel inspired to cook (which I normally don’t) and get onto Pinterest more for ideas. Keep up the hard work, you’re doing a great job!! :-)

    • Rachel Schultz

Rachael! That’s so encouraging for me to hear. I hope you keep cooking! Thanks for reading.

  • Kat

    Hey Rachel!
I just started following your blog mostly for the recipes, but I’ve found I love reading about the meal planning and everyday little things you and your husband are doing. Thanks for being out there :)

    I could probably swing that.

I’ve never been one to follow blogs but I’ve really enjoyed following yours. I have your homepage bookmarked on my web browser and read often throughout my week! You are doing a great work here!
