THE GUEST ROOM PLANS

November 17, 2015

Having a guest room was one of my most and anticipated and beloved hopes in owning a home. We had overnight friends a few times in the apartment and posting them up on the couch or an air mattress was pleasant for none of us. (And yet also maybe a little more fun and memorable, in the camp-y type way.)

SECOND FLOOR BASEMENT BEFORE from Rachel Schultz-14

Above was the room before move in and below is present day. It is storing the most unusual mix of furniture (namely a media table with no television). Before baby came we wanted to make it at least functional so friends who stayed to help with our newborn (bless you) had a dignified spot to lay their head.

  1. Replace light fixture
  2. Shiplap walls
  3. Lay hardwood floors
  4. Furnish, art, accessories
  5. Queen bed set up

Eventually, we would like a king mattress for the master and our current queen will move in here. This will probably coincide well with this twin going into our boy’s room when he graduates from his crib.

Nothing you see now is what I am ultimately envisioning for it. Right now (like most rooms!) it is just a hodge podge of what we had on hand. The end result will feel a little bit colonial and farmhouse. You could imagine a room where something like an old fashioned quilt on the bed would be a must.
