TV MOUNT(AIN TOP) EXPERIENCE

March 3, 2013

With a wall-mounted TV, I feel so glamorous. Like we’re at a sports bar or something. Just kidding. But for real, the mounted TV is chic. And it opens up the media table for other storage. (And in our case, books! So people we’ll think we’re intellectual and read as much as we watch TV, right?)

First, we cut a piece of wrapping paper to the exact size of the TV, which saved us a lot of indecision and arm fatigue trying to position it just right. Plus, we could walk around and visualize from many angles.

We got even more crazy with our paper stand-ins and tried putting up some imaginary sconces. Jury’s out if we’ll go through with those.

Dave handily installed the mount, which cost us $50 at Best Buy (plus $20 for the cord cover). Yes, that’s a jar of sugar holding the books in place. And no, it’s not still there. One, because it belongs in the pantry. And two, the leaning books tipped it over and sugar spilled everyyyyywhere.

This is the first thing checked off our to-do list for making the apartment our home. I totally love it and it makes snuggling up for movies even more delightful. Also, when I’m acting like a fool doing Jillian Michaels workout videos, the TV is right at eye level. (So Jillian can really get in my face.)

  • Nice! We need to mount our tv, I’m thinking of just having Best Buy swing by and mount it though.

    • Rachel Schultz

It wasn’t too hard to do by ourselves! If you’re up for the task.

Looks great! I want to know what’s in your “library”. Are you on Goodreads?

    • Rachel Schultz

No, I’ve never heard of Goodreads, what is it? I do have a “What I’m Reading” area in the sidebar of my about me page.

http://www.goodreads.com. You post ratings and reviews for books you’re reading and your friends do the same–it’s sort of like facebook, but with a literary purpose. ;-) I am so curious what the baby names you’ve picked out are! (I happened to see that while I was looking at your What I’m Reading List).

        • Rachel Schultz

That’s cool! Thanks for telling me about it. As for baby names, our list is a continual work in progress :)

          • Nik

A likely story! You are afraid I will steal them, aren’t you? ;-)

  • Awe! How sweet!
I love this set up and that is a handy tip for mounting a TV!
So neat to watch you all make your house your home!

    • Rachel Schultz

Thanks! We’re having so much fun doing it.
