I LIKE MY COFFEE (TABLE) WHITE

May 4, 2013

Back in ’08, I bought a Jokkmokk dining table at IKEA and painted it black. Last summer, we revamped him by chopping (most of) his legs off and adding stained wood to the top to transfer it into a coffee table. (Everything on that project here.) Now that we’ve lived with him for a while, I’ve realized the black just isn’t doing it for me anymore. I want white. It’s crisp & fresh and even a hint of farmhouse-y.

I expected covering the black to be a bit of a chore, so I went for Behr’s Paint & Primer in One Interior Satin Enamel in “ultra pure white.”

It took three coats to get an even finish, but we’re pleased. It has just enough of a gloss to it. I am conflicted on if I’ll go back and polyurethane over top. (PS: We used frogtape. It sticks so well for painting projects, I never even bother with the cheap blue stuff. It even worked on fabric for our painted no-sew striped curtains.)

I’ve learned to remove tape immediately after painting when you can still have a chance to wipe up any drips.

And here it is, this freshened up beauty. I’m totally craving a classic red, persian-y rug in here. I’m scouring Craigslist and ebay hoping one day we’ll nab one for a deal. Wouldn’t it be the perfect pattern and brightness for this drab carpet?
