Alternate title: FINISHED WOOD FLOORS EVERYWHERE. Second alternate title: I AM POSTING A PDA PHOTO ON THE INTERNET WHICH I WOULD NOT NORMALLY DO BUT WE COMPLETED A FLOORING RENOVATION AND WE ARE ABOVE THE LAW NOW. Our son’s room was my favorite before and after of the hardwoods. It felt like the biggest transformation because his room had also been housing all the boxes of wood waiting to be laid.
Not only does he have new tidy floors, but there is also not an enormous stack of cardboard boxes taking up 20% of the room’s square footage.
We have an extra twin bed in here that I bought from a vintage store while I was in college. I would have been shocked at the time to learn one day one of my children would have it in their rooms! Also, there it is, the rug I do not like but that will not die – ha. It is so good to have a normal children’s bedroom so I will not have to explain to babysitters that there are only temporarily weirdly boxes in here or warn them of the scary carpet transition at the door.
I love having kid art collages on the walls, so some of our son’s creations are up there. The sweet little bunny lamp is one of the most special things we own. David’s grandpa made it in high school shop class (!) and his dad had it in his childhood bedroom too. Also my girlfriends always ask (while giving a disclaimer they do not know anything about sports) what famous athlete that picture is of, but it is just David’s dad in high school!
There is the promised PDA photo. I was surprisingly emotional at the end of all the wood floors. We have been working on this on and off for a year and have so many memories – planning, problem solving, complaining, sleeping in the guest room while we did the master, watching movies late at night after we finished working, laughing, crying (only me), sharing updates on the blog.
It was a good 13 months. I am happy it is over and I will also (because I am insane) miss it a little. I cried at the end. Not because it was hard, but because I thought about remembering this when we are old together.
