I AM WITH CHILD. It was really hard to not tell you this for as long as I did because during my first trimesters I become INCREDIBLY sick. Which I know it’s really boring to hear someone talk about how bad they feel, but when I discover mom friends who also have epic-ly hard first trimesters the camaraderie provides a little relief. I’m not talking first trimester symptoms like, “I’m so tired I fell asleep watching a movie!”

I’m talking like all-I-can-do-is-feed-my-children-and-make-sure-they-don’t-injure-themselves-while-my-husband-is-at-work-and-the-rest-of-my-life-is-exclusively-bed-rest.

BABY NO 3 copy

My one friend who has this level bad in the first trimesters was joking some people will be like for her nausea, “have you tried ginger??” and she’s like I am literally on the anti nausea medicine they give chemo patients.

The rest of this baby announcement will be more light and happy, because we are like, so, so happy. But so far preparing for our new little one has been trudging through the hard part. I don’t find the sleepless newborn stuff or even labor all that terrible, but first trimesters, for me, is easily the hardest phase. It does feel like walking through death to bring about life. Which is the gospel story, right? So I can cling to that. And this difficult stuff is really just the beginning of many ways that moms sacrifice their body for their children, which is a good thing to get to do.

Now you can know too why there were a few stretches of me not posting much, it was because we were in survival mode. We made it through! We love you baby!

  • I came here for the recipes and fell in love with this post. I’m pregnant with the third too and the first trimester was the hardest thing I’ve ever done! Ty for sharing.

yay babies! i not so secretly hope that one day your blog will include more bits on motherhood and babies. i’m at 25 weeks right now and my first trimester was survival mode too! my 2 year old watched wayyy more tv than i ever would have liked, but i tried to remind myself it was just a season. thank God for supportive husbands who come swoop in after work to take over <3 !

      Aw thank you valerie!

Major congratulations are definitely in order. I certainly was a bit worried when we didn’t hear much from you – so glad it was for a wonderful reason. Best wishes!

    • Rachel Schultz

      Thank you Chris!

  • What do you mean by first trimester? Mine lasted til I finally gave birth! And not just morning either! 24/7 is what I’m talking about! At least the labor was easy, but then we went through colic for 3-4 months, so no sleep either. I have 3 grown kids now and wonder at times how I had the energy to do it two more times. Wouldn’t do without them now, but if I had to do it over,I’d have the grandkids first! Congratulations on the new arrival! I’ll be praying for you.

Oh boy. That’s crazy! Thanks Angie.

Congrats Rachel! So exciting! (Well the baby part…not so much the terrible first trimester part!)

  • Sarah

    Congratulations! :)

  • Andrea

You go, mama! I’m currently 8 months pregnant with my first, and my first trimester sounds very similar to yours. People would ask if I tried ginger or those pressure sea bands and I’d just bite my tongue and manage, Um yes, thank you. I’m actually on drugs so I can get out of bed. Haha. But I’m glad to hear that labor wasn’t as bad for you – that’s what I’m scared for now! Congratulations on your growing family!!!

    • Rachel Schultz

Haha, yeah so true. Thank you Andrea!

  • Judi

Yayy! Congratulations to you & hubby :)

  • Alice R.

Congratulations! I had a tough time with first trimester nausea too; It’s still a vivid memory after 31 years. Glad you have moved on into a more comfortable stage. Take care of yourself!

    • Rachel Schultz

      Thank you Alice!

  • WOW, congratulations! It sounds like the last few months have been so tough. You are a trooper. PS. I love your little “We like babies” sign. So cute. :)
