GUEST ROOM UPDATE

September 10, 2018

With living in a home that is being completely renovated ongoingly, every room needs attention so it’s kind of unusual that I’ve doubled back a little bit on one of our most done rooms, the guest room and nursery. BUT it all started with realizing I wasn’t completely happy with the first rug I picked. You can see the previous iteration of the guest room here. I decided I wanted to change the rug for something warmer and with more colors.

Then when I found this one I had to get it, which is what prompted the room change. I love persian rugs, and though I shop for them vintage often, when a really good mass produced one comes along I take notice. I think this is the best mass produced one for the price I have ever seen.

I love that it has tassels! That makes such a difference for the sense of detail and quality. It’s the nuloom medallion fringe rug. I’ve seen it lots of places but it’s on amazon with prime right now!

Another change is new art which I have liked for the same reasons as the rug actually – warmth and pattern. The frames are from target. Also at target I got those leather bins from the hearth and hand line. They are really nice for baby clothes.

Anddd the biggest change for COMFORT is our new mattress we got from leesa. It has the balance I like in a mattress which is soft and yet mysteriously still firm in a way too. The mattress itself is crazy pretty with this warm gray quilting (the same stitching as their blanket).

We use their pillows which I can only describe as like a mini mattress in pillow form. Very supportive and doesn’t even have to have a pillowcase. The mattress we have is called the sapira and right now it is actually $225 off!

We built the wall mounted nightstand ourselves and for this update I layered it with another accent table. I like the chrome with the brass lamp and it is nice for more surface area.

One last difference was that we removed the arm chair. We didn’t find ourselves using it. It’s better for flow without it anyway. That chair was from back when I tried my hand at furniture upholstery for the first time and there were certainly some (MANY) imperfections so we disposed of it.

I think I have found it is worth it to hire out upholstery for things like full arm chairs (unless you are really into practicing to learn the trade and become good). Benches and simple seats like on dining room chairs I would still do myself though. (David usually helps me. It kind of takes a lot of strength to pull tight and do well!)

Here is the verrry before photo for the room, like the pervious owner’s stuff before we moved in. It feels so good to come so far.

All the sources for items should be linked under photos, but let me know if I missed any.

And links for the diy’s we did in here – a $30 wall mounted nightstand and very cheap board and batten. And putting in hardwood floors of course!
