MARSHMALLOW SNOWFLAKES

December 4, 2020

I have not yet but am intrigued by people who do things with pretty, perhaps artisan, homemade marshmallows. I have not dabbled in this so far, but I would like to. What I am sharing today is an option for wanting to have a cute marshmallow life that is also working for me now. There are several things I like about this marshmallow event. One is that it uses just normal, buyable inexpensively marshmallows and toothpicks to make a fun marshmallow and hot cocoa experience.

Two is that it achieves the beloved by children “snacktivity” session. An activity, and a snack. And I would say craft or art project too. For this idea all that is needed are marshmallows in the two standard sizes. One big one and 16 littles. And some tooth picks.

For garnishing our hot cocoa!

A related matter, I am also pursuing finding my favorite method of how to make actual hot chocolate and not just hot cocoa. Is it richer? Better? Worth extra effort or cost? The are the questions I am asking. I am going to create a nutella one.

Merry Christmas!

AUTUMN SNACK MIX

October 23, 2020

This is our family’s favorite snack mix for fall. It is HEARTY. The kind of hearty where if you serve it with a fruit and cheese board it feels  like a meal. It is really nice to have on a cozy autumn night watching movies.  What is it about a snack mix that is so fun to eat? First you target your favorite items. And then move on to others. Something about searching for your preferred items and alternating between different tastes is very fun and adds something to this special time of year.

My favorite piece is the chocolate covered pretzels OF COURSE. I make slight variations to the mix. No one in my family adores the mellowcreme pumpkins yet for some reason I still sometimes keep them around for the seasonal-ness and cuteness. Also reese’s pieces feel nostalgic halloween for me, I just love them in october.

My springtide snack mix is here if you’d like to save it for then! I’m an activist for building up easter season.

WATERMELON MEMORY GAME CRAFT

July 20, 2020

Art project, matching memory game, and counting practice all in one. That last one was really fun and sweet for the toddler age. Also, a summer theme! We used simple water colors with different shades of red, pink and green which made them turn out really pretty. We have been watercoloring a lot lately and my set is almost out. I may be ordering this one with some good shades, while still kid friendly on amazon soon. I recently got a three inch circle punch and am delighted and surprised by the number of uses I find for it. It’s not too expensive and just handy to have.

One tip is to rubber band them as soon as you’re done or they kind of end up everywhere as watermelon decorations!

MATERIALS

  1. white paper
  2. circle punch
  3. scissors
  4. watercolors
  5. brushes
  6. black marker

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Cut out circles out of white paper, approximately three inches in diameter. This could be using a circle punch or freehand with scissors.
  2. Paint a circle around perimeter in shades of green.
  3. Paint inside of circle with shades of red and pink.
  4. Once dry, draw same number of seeds on each side of watermelon.
  5. Cut watermelons in half.

We made eight pairs in total, but you could make as few or as many for your game as you like.
