TWO YEAR VIDEO HOUSE TOUR

July 10, 2017

At first, 2017 was kind of divided up all based on our self-titled Summer of the Exterior. A couple of months ago as we got closer to summer, we found ourselves feeling less excited about some of the exterior projects, and more disappointed about the interior projects getting pushed aside. We did some course correction and are still doing the summer items we really want, and then going back inside for the things that will most increase our quality of life.

Also recently I had a lightbulb about my strategy with decorating our home. In the beginning of renovating a fixer upper (while you live in it), everything is mostly putting out fires – fixing “bones” stuff and glaring problems.

Now that we are about two years in and have brought most areas up to a blank slate, I caught myself kind of just drifting between different projects and rooms. David suggested we try picking a single room and bring it totally to completion and already just the mindset alone has been really satisfying. It is a lot better for momentum to have one room 100% done instead of like, four rooms maybe just 25% better. This new strategy has reorganized what we are aiming to do for the rest of 2017.

I a tiny bit dread getting out the camera and doing an update video. There are many things that are not yet where I want them to be, and it can feel frustrating! But I force myself to because they are so, so nice to have to look back on. Watching our 2016 (one year in) and 2015 (just moved in) ones were crazy!

So right now the Summer goals are 100% finishing the living room, new nursery, and then the certain outdoor projects that are important to us. It feels so much better than wandering between rooms and projects.

For October, I have powder bath pencilled in right now, but we are deciding between doing that or the master bedroom. Main floor stuff is seen and used more, but having a nice master retreat is so refreshing. And then maybe we’d tack on gutting our master bath and bringing it up to master suite status too. Then, November and December is kitchen and mudroom!
